A few days ago I accidentally came across the original version of track I Know You Love Me Too! by German producer Chris Raven (Chris Raabe).

Chris Raven was born in 1972. His first contact with electronic music can be traced back to the start of the 90's in Solingen, a German city. There, he established his first residency at the Orange Club. During his tenure at the club, he organised electronic music events with other known DJs, like Westbam, DJ Dick and Steve Mason. Soon, he attracted the attention of Adam & Eve records, for which he would be become the label DJ, with appearances at Berlin's Love Parade and Zürich's Street Parade. He continued to spin records not only in other places of Germany, but also in Holland and Belgium.
In 1996, he collaborated in the studio with Bart Van Der Zwaan and Dr Logatec (editor's note: For some reason, I am not sure if Dr Logatec is a different person or an alias of Chris Raabe) for the production of his first track named I Know You Love Me Too!, which was released one year later by Electronic, an EMI sublabel. The track gained so much popularity, that it was licensed by important EDM labels, like Bonzai Records in Belgium and Additive in England, while it was canned by superstar DJs of this era (Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & John Digweed), reaching as classic status among clubbers.
Between the period 1999-2003, 3 additional EPs followed:
- I Lost You (2000)
- Smegma / Nevermore (2001)
- Loss Of Memory (2003)
Along to his original productions, he was involved in remix duties for other artists. Major League - Wonder/Wonder Where You Are? (a collab between Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren) and Gaia - 4 Elements (project of AVB) are the most known to be mentioned.
Until 2014, he was a regular DJ for Familiär Statt Populär parties held at Orange Club in Düsseldorf (editor's note: Likewise, I am not aware if it is the same club moved from Solingen to Düsseldorf or a new, different place). Mixing techno, prog and house music, he continues to mark his presence at the clubbing scene.

Three remixes have accompanied the original version of today's track, all released in 1997. The version by Van Bellen is a multi-layered production: a 4x4 beat, a 303-esque acid bassline and the seductive vocals lead to the main hook, composing a banging dark progressive trance stomper.

The second remix is created by Bruce Norris. It is less sophisticated, but the emotional trance pads, which the version is based on, generate an uplifting feeling with greater emphasis on the vocal sample:

Tune #84: Lambda - Hold On Tight
When in hard times, there is no other option than to hold on tight...
LAMBDA - HOLD ON TIGHT (ORIGINAL MIX)
RED was a short-lived electronic music label (1995 - 1999) based in Netherlands. A funny thing about this label was the formula used for the aliases of the signed artists: the letters of the Greek alphabet!
The Greek letters were distributed among the following producers:
- Letters α, ζ, μ, ξ, π, ρ, τ, υ, φ and ψ were occupied by Vincent Kriek (I can only assume that Vincent is the founder of the label, using the most letters!).
- Letters β, γ, δ, κ, σ, ο and χ were reserved by Dutch versatile artist Alex Dijksterhuis, mostly known for his pseudonym Jamez.
- Georgio Schultz used letter ε.
- René ter Horst (better known through his collaborations with his partner in crime Gaston Steenkist) used letter η.
- Theta (θ) release was actually Sonic Evolution - Electron (it seems that Oliver Wischerath deviated from the strict naming).
- Letter ν is missing in the Discogs database, so no information is currently available.
- The remaining letters ι, λ and ω were given to today's artist Edwin Keur.
Influenced by the electronic dance music of the early eighties (hip hop/electro-boogie/swingbeat), Edwin Keur created with the help of his friends an illegal radio station at the end of the same decade. At the same time, he got acquainted with Olav Basoski and Georgio Schultz. In the early 90's the radio station got busted, so Edwin and his friends performed a new program via a legal radio station, at which he met René ter Horst and Gaston Steenkist. In the meantime, he expressed interest in writing his own compositions, so he bought some equipment in order to produce the first tracks.
Hold On Tight was written in 1995 by Edwin as Lambda (λ) and it is undoubtedly the most successful release of RED (1996). Having more than 30 releases in Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France, UK, Belgium, Spain and Australia and featured in many compilations & mixes, it is widely considered a club classic.
The original version has a dark and cold feel, just like it was generated in a factory! Additionally, it samples the vocals of Martha Walsh from her song Give It Back To Me. There are many remixes of the track, but the most prominent reprise belongs to the trance masters of that era, Nalin & Kane (1997)!

The dark atmosphere is still present in this version. The track slowly builds with a intro which underlies the storm to follow. Finally, the energy is released by the outro synth which transforms the record to a club dynamite!
Nowadays, Edwin Keur seems to be inactive in terms of music production, but he occasionally DJs in events held in Netherlands. However, Hold On Tight is still remembered by the club community for its energy!

Tune #56: Van Bellen - Groovepalette
Ο Γερμανός Jörg Querner, γνωστός ως (Yoogie Van Bellen), ανήκει στην τρομερή φουρνιά της progressive trance μεταξύ τέλη 90's - αρχές 00's, μιας εποχής που παρήγαγε καταιγιστικά κομμάτια (όπως το Breeder - Tyrantanic που αναρτήθηκε παλαιότερα). Κινούμενο σε αυτά τα πλαίσια, το Music Miner παρουσιάζει το Soul Feel Groovepalette!
VAN BELLEN - GROOVEPALETTE
Το μουσικό υπόβαθρο του Yoogie περιλαμβάνει διάφορα ακούσματα, όπως οι πρωτοπόροι Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk (από τα 70s), disco και soul (από τα 80s), καθώς και italo dance και hip hop. Μεγάλη επιρροή σύμφωνα με τα λεγόμενά του αποτελεί το συγκρότημα Art Of Noise, ένα από τα πρώτα μουσικά σχήματα που χρησιμοποίησε το sampling σε pop μουσική.
Το DJing και η παραγωγή μουσικής ξεκίνησε σε ερασιτεχνικό στάδιο στο δεύτερο μισό της δεκαετίας του 80. Ολοκληρώντας τις επαγγελματικές του σπουδές το 1994, η χρονιά ορόσημο αποτέλεσε 3 χρόνια αργότερα, όταν συνεργάστηκε με τους Harry Kane & Andreas Bialek, οι οποίοι δεν είναι άλλοι από τους Nalin & Kane.
Στο label τους, Superfly, κυκλοφόρησε το 1997 η πρώτη παραγωγή του Van Bellen με την ονομασία Let Me Take You (On A Journey). Την ίδια χρόνια οι Nalin & Kane του δάνεισαν τον κομμάτι τους Talkin' About για remixing.
Το χρονικό διάστημα 1997 - 2004 αποτελεί την χρυσή εποχή για τον Yoogie, καθώς κυκλοφόρησαν κομμάτια όπως:
Στην ίδια κατεύθυνση κυμαίνεται και το Soul Feel, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε το 2000 στο βρετανικό label Beak Recordings. Την επόμενη χρονιά το κομμάτι συμπεριλήφθηκε στο Bedrock DJ Mix του Jimmy Van M, κάνοντας το ευρύτερα γνωστό στο κοινό της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής.
Πραγματοποιώντας ένα διάλειμμα μεταξύ 2005 - 2011, ο Jörg Querner επέστρεψε στη δράση με μουσικές στο φάσμα της progressive house. Μπορεί αυτές να μην προσεγγίζουν τα πρότυπα της χρυσής εποχής, αλλά ένα είναι σίγουρο: o Van Bellen έχει στο παλμαρέ του μία πληθώρα από σπουδαίες δουλειές και θα έπρεπε να τυγχάνει μεγαλύτερης αναγνώρισης...

Tune #5: Nalin & Kane - Beachball

Τα παραπάνω αποτελούν στίχοι από το αξιομνημόνευτο τραγούδι Beachball από τους Nalin & Kane. Αράξτε σε μία ξαπλώστρα (σε παραλία κατά προτίμηση) και ακούστε το:

Το Βeachball (1997), όντας ένα πολύ χαλαρωτικό τραγούδι, σου δημιουργεί ένα αίσθημα νοσταλγίας για καλοκαιρινές στιγμές ανεμελιάς και ξεκούρασης. Σε αυτό το summer mood συμβάλλουν οι ήχοι της θάλασσας και των γλάρων (ή κορακιών???) που ακούγονται. Ο ρυθμός του τραγουδιού είναι απλός, αλλά ικανός (από ότι δείχνουν τα φαινόμενα) ώστε αυτό να αποτελέσει έναν ibiza anthem. Άλλωστε, less is more...
Οι Nalin & Kane σίγουρα φημίζονται για τα remixes τους, όμως ένα στοιχείο που δεν μου αρέσει είναι ότι έχουν αρκετές ομοιότητες μεταξύ τους, καθώς εμφανίζουν κοινό beat (μπορεί βέβαια να είναι και η ίδεα μου). Προσωπικά πιστεύω ότι αν ακούσω ένα remix από τους Ν+Κ χωρίς να το γνωρίζω, θα το αναγνωρίσω εύκολα (αυτό βέβαια δεν είναι και απαραίτηκα κακό).
Για το τέλος, αφήνω μία άλλη εκδοχή του Beachball, με το όνομα Cruising, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε το 2003 ως αποτέλεσμα συνεργασίας των Ν+Κ, Denis The Menace και Alex Prince.

Tune #2: Lustral - Everytime
Μετά το μαγευτικό ήχο της Stella από τους Jam & Spoon περνάμε στο επόμενο κομμάτι. Κάνοντας μία αναδρομή στο παρελθόν, σας παρουσιάζω το Everytime από τους Lustral...
LUSTRAL - EVERYTIME
Οι Lustral αποτελούνται από τους Stephen Jones και Ricky Simmonds, οι οποίοι είναι γνωστοί και με άλλα aliases (The Space Brothers, Chakra, Ascension, Essence, Ultra High, The Realm). To Everytime κυκλοφόρησε το 1997, αποτέλεσε τη μεγαλύτερη επιτυχία τους ως Lustral και μιξαρίστηκε από μεγάλα ονόματα, όπως οι Way Out West και οι Nalin & Kane. Τη δουλειά τους ως Lustral ανακάλυψα σχετικά πρόσφατα ακούγοντας ένα compilation, αν και τους 2 καλλιτέχνες γνώριζα από παλιά ως Chakra από το κομμάτι Love Shines Through και ως Ascension από το κομμάτι Someone.
Το συγκεκριμένο τραγούδι με γοήτευσε από το πρώτο άκουσμα. Η όμορφη μουσική του σε συνδυασμό με τα απίστευτα φωνητικά της Tracy Ackerman σου μεταδίδουν ένα ωραίο αίσθημα ευφορίας και ηρεμίας.
Αν και έγινε γνωστό κυρίως μέσω του remix από τους Nalin & Kane, τολμώ να πω ότι περισσότερο μου αρέσει η original version, η version του 2007 και το remix από τους Way Out West. Τα 2 remixes και η 2007 version παρουσιάζονται παρακάτω, για να κρίνετε και μόνοι σας:
